Dr Karima Khalid delivered a compelling presentation on Essential Emergency and Critical Care (EECC) at the Society of Critical Care Medicine’s (SCCM) Critical Care Congress in Orlando, Florida. The annual conference, a premier event for critical care professionals, brought together physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and other healthcare experts to discuss the latest advancements in critical care medicine, including new treatments, technologies, and patient care practices.  

Dr Khalid’s presentation provided a comprehensive overview of EECC, emphasizing its importance in addressing the large unmet need for essential care among critically ill patients. She addressed key topics such as the definition of ‘critical illness and critical care,’ the global gap in essential critical care, and how EECC aims to bridge this gap. Additionally, she shared insights from her work implementing EECC in Tanzania, showcasing practical applications of the approach in resource-limited settings.  

The Critical Care Congress, known for its focus on intensive care medicine, featured a variety of formats, including presentations, workshops, poster sessions, and networking opportunities, making it a vital platform for knowledge exchange and collaboration in the field.
