APPRISE Project 3 ( THUMB Project) Launch at Mwananyamala and Amana RRH

The THUMB trial, a multi-centre cluster trial focused on evaluating the implementation of a perioperative care complex intervention designed to improve outcomes from haemorrhage during and after caesarean sections in African hospitals, was successfully launched at Amana and Mwananyamala Regional Referral Hospitals on the 29th and 22nd August respectively.

This was preceded by a 2-week baseline data collection and co designing with the respective hospitals to fit the trial with the hospital local context.

The trial then progressed into a next phase involving mandatory risk assessments and structured data collection in the pre-, intra and post op periods to support timely activation of the THUMB bundled care whenever bleeding was identified during or after caesarean section.

In Tanzania, Amana and Mwananyamala RRH are the selected hospitals implementing this trial amongst other hospitals in 4 participating countries in Africa.

We are committed to strengthening perioperative systems and improving maternal outcomes in low resource settings.
