Building Global Acute Care Research Capacity meeting in Kigali, Rwanda

POETICTz were happy to take part in the “Building Global Acute Care Research Capacity” meeting in Kigali on 5th-9th October – convened by InFACT, ISARIC and CIIC-HIN.

More than 140 delegates from all continents gathered in person (and more online) to learn from each other’s varied and rich experiences, and discuss ways forward for research to strengthen acute and critical care globally.

Among the many subthemes that were discussed, delegates were in agreement that the overarching goal with our research is to improve, and save, lives and for this to happen we need not only new knowledge but knowledge needs to be put into practice. And research needs to be anchored in the community to meet the people’s needs.

On the same two themes, POETICTz presented

  • The Essential Emergency and Critical Care in Tanzania (EECCiT) program;

    • A government initiative that aims to improve the quality of care for critically ill patients in primary healthcare facilities in Tanzania

  • CRISP –“Critical Illness Survivors, Patients and Relatives”;

    • The voices of CRISP on their experiences when receiving care in the wards.

    • How POETIC is engaging CRISP in ethics consideration and formulating research agenda.

We look forward to continue building acute care research capacity and improving lives of our patients together forward!
