As POETIC Tanzania, we were honoured to witness the Essential Emergency and Critical Care (EECC) Training of Trainers workshop hosted by KCMC Hospital at the Anaesthesia SimLab, from 12–15 November 2025.
The workshop was officially opened by Dr. Ayesiga Herman, Director of Surgical Services at KCMC, who encouraged health professionals to apply the knowledge gained to create positive impact within the communities they serve. He emphasized that timely care for emergency and critically ill patients is vital in saving lives and improving patient outcomes.
The workshop was organized by Dr. Maynard Mekere (Consultant Anaesthesiologist – KCMC) and Dr. Judith Hilner (Consultant Surgeon – KCMC), and facilitated by an excellent team of trainers including Dr. Masuma Gulamhussein (Emergency Medicine – MUHAS), Dr. Peter Saria (Anaesthesiologist – CCBRT), and Dr. Richard Venn (Consultant in Critical Care & Anaesthesia – UK).
Over the four-day workshop, participants were equipped with the skills to deliver EECC training, strengthening clinical readiness and improving care for emergency and critically ill patients across KCMC and neighbouring regional hospitals.
A total of 25 participants from KCMC and various health facilities across the Kilimanjaro region took part in this important capacity-building programme aimed at enhancing skills and fostering collaboration.
